PMCH Dhanbad was established in 1971 under private management as Patliputra Medical College at Ashok Raj Path, Patna. In 1977, the college was shifted to Dhanbad and renamed as Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College. The college is affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University (VBU), Hazaribagh and approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
