About BIT Sindri
BIT, Sindri began as the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 1949 at Patna. Following a year, it shifted to Sindri on 17th November 1950. Consequently, BIT Sindri was brought into the world by a principal, three Professors, and sixty undergraduates in a simple function with some tea over the dining table. The Institute developed and prospered quickly during the good ‘ole days under the dynamic leadership of Prof. D.L.Deshpande, the then Director[1950-61].
BIT Sindri, previously known as Bihar Institute of Technology, Sindri, was a subsidiary of Ranchi College. Later it became the affiliated engineering college of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh. Currently, it is under the affiliation of the Jharkhand University of Technology, Ranchi. Hence, the degree is honored by the JUT.
The Institute, located at a distance of 28 km from Dhanbad &s linked by rail and road. It has a rambling campus of around 450 acres of land close to the eastern bank of the river Damodar. There are 28 hostels on the campus, a separate one for boys and girls, taking special care of the residential requirements of around 3000 undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students. Along with it, the Institute is fully residential for teaching staff and non-teaching staff

Admission Procedure
Admission To B.Tech Programs:
- Admissions to all B.Tech programs are made through Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (JCECE) conducted by JCECE Board constituted by Govt of Jharkhand. Lateral entry to diploma holders in engineering and technology is made in the 3rd semester through competitive examination conducted separately for them. The number of seats through lateral entry in all branches are 10% of the normal seats.

Admission To M.Tech Programs
- Admissions to M.Tech programs are made through written test/interview conducted by the institute. Candidates with a valid GATE score with B.E. /B.Tech or equivalent in respective discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent C.G.P.A ( in case of SC /ST the minimum marks of 55% or equivalent C.G.P.A) from recognized University/Institute, are eligible to apply in prescribed format.
- Candidates possessing above qualifications and having valid GATE score will be entitled for monthly stipend as per the A.I.C.T.E. / Government approved norms. If seats are not filled up with GATE qualified candidates for M.Tech program, other candidates may also be considered without monthly stipend.
Admission To Research Programs
- Admission to Ph.D (Engineering) program in various engineering disciplines and interdisciplinary area is made through written test/interview conducted by the institute. Candidates with M.E. /M.Tech or equivalent degree in respective discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent C.G.P.A ( in case of SC /ST the minimum marks of 55% or equivalent C.G.P.A) from recognized University/Institute, are eligible to apply in prescribed format.
